Bacteria from marine sponge, Xestospongia exigua (Kirkpatrick, 1900) and ambient water are isolated and characterized to define their metabolic capabilities and to elucidate their possible interaction with the host sponge. Morphological structure and ability to utilize various compounds as carbon source and enzyme activity are used as basis to establish possible relationships.
