This study documents and analyzes the experiences of four cooperatives in Maguindanao province. The findings show that the contributions of private institutions proved to be critical in enhancing cooperative viability since they assisted cooperatives in acquiring technical know how and in marketing their produce. Organizational factors such as leadership, dynamism, and versatility in income-generating activities, and efficient utilization of resources (technical, financial and human) are considered critical to viably operate cooperatives in conflict-ridden areas like Maguindanao.
