This article presents a background on the mineral industry and then examines the 1995 Mining Act particularly the provision on Financial or Technical Assistance Agreement (FTAA) Case Studies on Western Mining Corporation, Philippines, the first to be granted an FTAA in Mindanao, and on the effects of large-scale mining on the lives of Indigenous Peoples and small-scale miners of Mindanao are also included.
