There are twelve sorghum varieties that USMARC researchers have developed which grain yield. USM SG (USMARC 104) is the first that is released as commercial variety by the Philippine Seed Board in 1993. In 1996, the National Seed Industry Council has commercially released USMARC 212 now USM SG-4. The USMARC 212 seeds are produced and maintained at USMARC. The rest of the varieties are planted and maintained in a 1,500 sq. meter area in a fifteen day interval from other variety. Five hundred panicles are selected as progenitors and breeder seeds of at least 100 kg are stored in the cold seed storage.
