This article deals with the origin, growth and development of the "madrasah" system of education in the Philippines. The paper starts with a survey of literature on the origin of the "madrasah" and proceeds to discuss the developments of the "madrasah" during the last years of the Marcos regime. The author also provides insights on the prospects of the "madrasah" system of education under the ARMM. (also ST)
