Germplasm collection, evaluation and maintenance of promising pasture grasses

Annotation

Herbage yields trial of promising pasture grasses is collected to identify pasture species adapted under conditions of high elevation and high rainfall intensity. The result reveals that seven pasture species have a promising potential under high elevation and high rainfall conditions yielding more than thirty tons per hectare mean annual yield out of yielding the two control species with less than twenty tons per hectare herbage yield. Most species evaluated show lower yield during the first year of establishment but increases during the succeeding years. S. spachetelata shows high yield during the first year but reduces during the second year.
