Germplasm collection, evaluation and maintenance of promising marang cultivars

Annotation

The study aims to: (1) establish a gene bank of promising marang cultivars found in the region and to be able to create an exchange program of germplasm materials with other countries, (2) evolve a systematic morphological characterization of all the cultivars collected from the various local and foreign sources starting from the collection, to planting and bearing age, (3) evaluate the promising cultivars in terms of precocity of flowering, fruiting habit, yield, eating quality, pest resistance and processing potential, and (4) maintain a marang orchard in the center for germplasm purposes for further breeding and clonal improvement studies.
