Finfish resources

Annotation

This research is a component of the resource and ecological assessment project of Panguil Bay. It aims to assess the natural stock of economically important finfishes in the Bay. From January-December 1991, catch composition of all gears are surveyed. Sex ratios and maturity stages are determined by dissection of the finfishes. On the other hand, population parameters are estimated using the Compleat ELEFAN Program Version 1.0. The Thompson and Bell method is used to predict the annual yield and biomass of the following five economically important fish species: Upeneus sulphureus (Yellow Striped Goatfish / Malitubong), Leiognathus equulus (Common Pony Fish / Danglay), Gerres filamentosus (Mojarras / Puti-an), Therapon jarbua (Convex-lined Therapon / Buga-ong), and Epinephelus sexfasciatus (Grouper / Pugapo).
