This article elaborates on the formation of ethnicity as it applies to the Moros (Muslim Filipinos) due to colonial designs and the politics of nation-building in the Philippines. The Moro secessionist movement is also traced, and a discussion of governmental responses presented historically, winding up with what happens in Mindanao at present.
