An article relating to the educational situation in Lanao del Sur. Literacy in Lanao refers to literacy in both Arabic and Roman script. A large percentage of the Maranaos is literate in Arabic but is illiterate in writing their own dialect in the Roman script. Educated children are often seen by their parents in the highest ranks socially, politically and economically. Parents now realize that a degree from a recognized Philippine school is instrumental in providing better jobs for their children.
