Development of hybrids and open-pollinated varieties of sweet potato

Annotation

The study includes among others: (1) Yield Screening Trial: (a) Selection of 32 progenies/polycross hybrids from 81 entries (1st set), (b) Selection of 25 progenies from 95 entries based on yield (2nd set), and (c) Selection of 19 progenies from the 74 entries based on yield (3rd set), (2) Generation of F1 polycross hybrids (Set C), (3) Generation of F1 hybrids, (4) Harvesting of polycross hybrids, (5) Planting of parental clones for the development of F1, and (6) Maintenance and multiplication of polycross hybrids. The significant accomplishments include two high-yielding polycross hybrids with storage and root yield ranging from 15.78-16.67 t/ha. and a dry matter content ranging from 25.72-34.14 percent in the NCT trial at DA, Tupi, South Cotabato. Extends thousands of cuttings of sweet potato of different fresh market type sweet potato to various cooperatives, thesis students, farmer organizations and other government and private institutions.
