The University of Southern Mindanao Agricultural Research Center, being the National Research Center for Corn and Sorghum, developed mechanical dryer but to date no low technology and low-cost dryers have been developed. The desirable features that have not been satisfactorily met by previous unadaptable designs are: (1) no fuel cost, (2) minimum moving parts, (3) low capital investment, (4) low maintenance and operating cost, (5) made of locally available materials, (6) simple in construction and (7) low additional cost over sun drying.
