Diatom is the key food organism on which the early larval stages of P. monodon are virtually dependent for sustenance. Thus, the mass production of P. monodon is dependent on the capacity to mass-produce diatom. This study investigates suitable fertilizer substitutes that can induce rapid growth and maintenance of heavy concentrations of the diatoms in a laboratory set-up.
