Therapon cancellatus or the cross-barred grunt locally known in Iligan City as pigok. The fish is a potential for culture because of its economic importance being a local delicacy and it is fetching higher price in the market. Aside from the availability of breeders and spawners, the fish has high fecundity that assures a good number of seed stock with successful breeding technology. Likewise, the species exhibits an omnivorous feeding habit. The culture of T. cancellatus can certainly augment and diversify the limited number of freshwater species reared.
