Biology of selected rice pests on an artificial diet

Annotation

The use of artificial diet is a welcome development to achieve uniformity on the insects used and can facilitate the study of insect biology, mass rearing for continuous supply, and for laboratory bioassays. Artificial diets have the ease and convenience in terms of preparation and observation. This study reports the suitability of the diet intended for use in rearing C. suppressalis to other lepidopterous insects. At present, the diet can be generally used in mass rearing five selected rice pests since it can properly support complete development of the insect from larvae to adults.
