An archaeological find in Butuan: Its significance in our pre-history

Annotation

Despite the progress of archaeological work in the Philippines there are still numerous places that need to be explored and investigated. One of these area is Northern Mindanao wherein very little or no work at all has been done except around Misamis Oriental. It is not primarily a neglect on the part of some institutions, but due to the lack of sufficient qualified personnel and funds to support such a project. Consequently, archaeological research in the country has suffered. Moreover, rampant vandalism and destruction of sites for their artifacts have caused not only the loss of national treasures, but have created a vacuum in the chronological history of the Philippines which could be perpetuated. This brief article summarizes the result of the archaeological excavation in Suatan, Butuan City.
