Wrigglesworth, who is a member of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, recorded a relevant material for folkloric studies. Two outstanding Manobo raconteurs provided her a repertoire of stories which became a part of her dissertation and the basis of this monograph. She arranges the tales under five categories: animal tales, culture heroes and heroines, kindness rewarded and evil punished, cleverness and stupidity, and fate. Furthermore, she prepares the reader for the peculiarities of Manobo style with information on the devices of folk rhetoric as they function in Manobo oral tradition.
