A great number of illiterates are found among Maguindanaon groups. Some reasons attributed to this characteristic are: distance of school from the house of the adults as most of the adults were found in the remote areas of Barangay Pagangan, Aleosan, and negative attitudes of the Maguindanaon women toward education for they believed that women were for the home only. But because of the program, they recognized the value of education in relation to their livelihood activities.
