A pioneering attempt to apply photo-interpretation techniques to identify functional variables readily discernable from aerial photographs that are related to volume of stock or standing timber in logged-over forests. It seeks to develop a system for an efficient volume estimation of the second-growth dipterocarp forests, one that is less expensive, require minimal field work and gives fairly reliable results.
