A study of the Sulu ballads

Annotation

This is an analysis of Sulu ballads and an evaluation of types of Philippine literature in terms of metrical form, structures and other elements such as, theme, style, metrics and figures. In this investigation, the expository method of research is used. All came from Sulu and from first hand information also from books, magazines, pamphlets and newspaper articles on Sulu. Findings disclose that the Sulu ballads (heroic, legendary and romantic) originate in the simple desire for entertainment that the Sulu poems could hardly be strictly designed either by individual-literary or the communal folk-intelligence authorship and that the communal-individualistic type may fairly and truly define the Sulu poems.
