Twenty-two legends and folklore representing both Christians and non-Christians (among which are the Muslims in the Zamboanga peninsula) are studied and analyzed. The analysis shows that most of the stories deal with the origins of certain places or things and how they derived their names. The tales reveal that before the coming of the Spaniards, the places in the area were nameless and that the early people had a civilization of their own. The historic feud between the Muslims, the Christians, and the Pagans which still exists even today is also one of the major themes.
