The sea cucumber species Stichopus chloronutus grown in BFAR-XI Marine Sanctuary in Barangay Bato, Sto. Cruz, Davao del Sur, was studied with respect to its moisture, ash, crude fat and crude protein composition, and macro and micro nutrient contents. The main purpose of the study was to provide a nutrient profile of S. chloronotus, which could be utilized by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in its effort to promote a stable sea cucumber industry in the Philippines.
The study showed that S. chloronotus grown in this area contains significant amounts of moisture, ash, fat, protein, phosphorous, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc.
