as documents produced by a council, many assert that these be the norms of Roman Catholic ecclesiology, that is, these documents must be seen as absolute, thus must be implemented unconditionally and uniformly in all the local churches of the world. However, differences in understanding the nature of the council and its teachings have emerged right after the end of the council and are still very pronounced today.
