Abstract:
USAID and the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) entered into a partnership agreement for the development of Inclusive Business Ecosystems for Agribusiness in Mindanao. Given the large concentration of the rural poor in Mindanao and its huge potential for agricultural development, the PBSP and USAID’s COMPETE project initiated the discussions towards setting - up an Inclusive Business (IB) agenda in agri-business focusing on the select tree crops –
cacao, coffee and rubber. Their development will contribute to generating jobs and livelihood in Mindanao. As a concrete response to the call of the government for more inclusive economic growth, COMPETE developed business cases on select tree crops, and in partnership with PBSP, facilitated the development of investment plans (public and private), expansion areas, and the potential outcomes of these investments in generating more jobs and livelihood opportunities for the farmers, especially in
Mindanao.
