Abstract:
Davao Oriental had the highest increase in Human Development Index.
From a 0.497 Human Development Index (HDI) in 1997, Davao Oriental’s HDI climbed to 0.564 in 2000, equivalent to a 13.4 percent increased. The province posted the highest increase among the provinces in the Philippines, turning its rank from 65 th to the 48 th . Consequently, Da vao Oriental has become the province with second highest HDI in Region XI.
The Human Development Index is a measure of human development performance of a country or province. It focuses on three indicators: health as measured by life expectancy; education as measured by the combined elementary and secondary enrollment rate and functional literacy rate; and income as measured by real per capita income.
