Abstract:
The data used in the analysis h as been collected in four provinces of the Philippines: Albay, Capiz, Zamboanga del Sur and Agusan del Sur. According to poverty maps from the National Statistical Coordination Board (2005), those four provinces are among the poorest in the Philippines and poverty incidence in the sampled municipalities is consistently higher than the provincial average.
Where the data have been collected, trust is closely related to the notion of networks of support. People generally believe that they can request help from family and neighbors for everyday needs. When their needs are larger, people go to church and/or village leaders. Those leaders and the institutions they represent are seen as bridges to resources.
