Forced Displacement: Moving from managing risk to facilitating opportunity

Abstract:

In Mindanao in the Philippines, the development of an economic strategy has been proposed for the areas which have been affected by conflict and displacement. It would aim to create incentives for peace for both those displaced as well as host communities (Coletta 2011). Research has shown that those areas which prospered economically were less likely to experience conflict and related displacement. In Azerbaijan, World Bank IDA operations have been supporting housing rehabilitation, community infrastructure and livelihoods / economic programs that target the displaced as well as host communities
