Abstract:
The Northern Mindanao consists of five provinces, with in cities and 84 municipalities. Pockets of poverty can be found in th e Region, specifically in the province of Lanao del Norte where all of its municipalities have poverty incidence greater than 46 percent. For t he entire region, only Cagayan de Oro City was shaded with dark green indicating a poverty incidence lower than 18 percent. The five poorest municipalities in th e Region were all locat ed in Lanao del Norte. The municipality of Tangkal register ed as the poorest municipality with a poverty incidence of 86.7 percent. Comparing the poverty incidences of the five poorest municipalities in each of the provinces in the Reg i on, it is worth noting that poverty incidence s o f the municipalities in Camiguin were relatively low as compared to municipalities in other provinces, with Sagay – its poor est municipality, postin g 38 percent in p o verty incidence. Edu c ation of th e household head, ho using materials, presence o f a street pattern in the barangay, proportion of households in th e municipality with washi ng machine, and avera ge proportion of household members who are children of the household head in the barangay were variables found t o be significantly related to th e income of families in th e Region.
