Abstract / Excerpt:

Abstract: The study focused on the cognitive skills (5)OBB grantees and five (5) regular OBB students of Arellano High School, Division of city Schools, Manila, the study was conducted to compare the cognitive skills of OBB grantees and OBB regular students in solving word problems. The sample used includes ten (10) selected students from the OBB experimental class of Arellano high School, Di vision of City Schools, Manila. Simple statistical tools such as mean and standard deviation were used to determine the performance in the class. Results showed that OBB grantees' cognitive skills and performance in the class were much higher than regular OBB students. It was highly recommended that another study should be conducted in the next year level to follow-up retention and mastery of skills in solving problems.
