Abstract / Excerpt:

This action research was undertaken to evaluate the impact of the New Faculty Orientation Program (NFOP) of the University of Southern Mindanao by 19 newly-hired College of Arts and Sciences who attended the June 2012 NFOP. The respondents evaluated the program with regards to the attainment of objectives; the delivery and implementation of the NFOP in terms of the content, process, speakers, time frame, and the provision of facilities and other needs; its impact on skill, knowledge and attitude; and the over-all evaluation of the whole program. Respondents were also asked which of the eight topics were the three most relevant, three least relevant/useful, three most and least informative, three most or least needing improvement, and the three topics considered as weak in the program. The respondents were also asked to give comments and suggestions for the improvement of the delivery and conduct of the NFOP. Results show that that majority of the respondents are between 21-24 years old, are females, college graduates, with one year or less teaching experience, carry teaching load between 21 to 24 units, and from the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy. The respondents agreed that the NFOP was able to attain the general objectives with only one statement gaining a Somewhat Agree rating. For the evaluation of the delivery and implementation of the NFOP in terms of the content, process, speakers, time frame, and the provision of facilities and other needs, the respondents agreed that the delivery and implementation, in general, were satisfactorily given but with noted need to improve on the emphasis or socialization among new faculty and senior faculty and personnel; emphasis, examples and interaction in topic discussion; speakers' time-consciousness; duration and flexibility of NFOP; and in preparation for equipment and venue of the NFOP.
