Abstract / Excerpt:
The study delved on the employability and productivity of the higher education graduates in the national agencies, specifically, in the various departments of the executive branch of government holding permanent status of appointment. The study involved 499 respondents from the 15 regional offices of the different departments in Region XI. Findings showed that respondents are predominantly aged 52 and above, females, married, within the administrative service group, holding their position and staying with their respective agencies for more than 15 years and about three quarters receiving monthly compensation within the ranges of P5,000.00 to P15,000.00 and P16,000.00 to P25,000.00. The employability factors that are perceived by respondents as necessary to highly necessary on their productivity are positive self-esteem and sense of humor, personal presentation, adaptability and ability to deal with pressure, career actualization ability, career control, career and motivation reflection, reliability and common sense, work exploration, honesty and integrity, networking, motivation and enthusiasm, balanced attitude to work and home life, work experience, planning and organizing, teamwork, initiative and enterprise, problem solving, communication, lifelong learning, self-management, education and training and technology. However, the best combination of the employees' employability factors that emerged after employment of factor analysis were accordingly named as personal and deployment attributes and growth assets. The respondents generally agreed that they are productive as to efficiency, effectiveness and economy. Results of the study disclosed that the employees are more productive in terms of economy than effectiveness and efficiency.
The regression equation shows that Productivity is a function of positive self-esteem and sense of humor, networking, planning and organizing, career actualization ability and adaptability and ability to deal with pressure. The resulting model however is not so robust. The employability factors contributing to the employees' productivity accounted for only 35.5% of the employees' productivity. This indicates that the greater percentage of the variance in the employees' productivity is accounted by other factors outside the model. Tests of difference conducted disclosed that there is a significant difference on the employees' productivity when grouped according to profile, particularly on highest educational attainment, position and compensation. The problems on productivity and recommended solutions were also recognized by employees.
