Abstract / Excerpt:

This study theorizes that before improving transportation system, it must be intrinsically studied and analyzed. Introducing Light Rail Transit as a new mode of transportation should be carefully investigated and research, considering the behavior of the people regarding travel, its impacts on the environment, land-use, and aesthetics. This study also made use of the following theories: Improving the competitiveness and quality of public transport would result in lesser traffic congestion in urban centers, improved mobility and access for the majority of the population, and reduced energy consumption, road traffic accidents, air pollution, noise level, and land taking and stations are the places where trains stop to collect and deposit passengers. Since the station is the first point of contact most passengers have with the railway, it should be regarded as the "shop window" for the services provided. It should therefore be well designed, pleasing to the eye, comfortable and convenient for the passenger as well as effecient in lay-out and operation.
