Abstract / Excerpt:

Affected goats have rough hair coats and their hind limbs are sealed with fecal material. The hair in this portion of the body is usually molted and subcutaneous bacterial infections causing emaciation is present especially among weanlings. They are usually weak, with dry mucus membranes and sunken eyes which are indications of dehydration. The mucus membrane is likewise always pale which is good evidence of anemia. Unthriftiness and progressive loss of weight is almost often present.
